Expressing Purpose With 为了

In Chinese, 为了 wèile can be used to express the purpose of an action, or a person is benefited from an action.

When 为了 wèile is used with "purpose" sense, it means "in order to" or "for the purpose of" in English. Noted that 为了 wèile can usually act as a preposition. In this role, the "为了 +purpose" should come before the verb.

Wèile mǎidào xǐhuān de fángzi, tā qùle hěnduō chéngshì, kànle hěnduō fángzi.

为了买到喜欢的房子,他去了很多城市,看了很多房子.

In order to buy a house that he likes, he went to many cities and saw many houses.

 

Wèile nǚpéngyǒu, tā yuànyì bāndào chéngshì shēnghuó.

为了女朋友,他愿意搬到城市生活。

He is willing to move to live in the cities for his girlfriend.
