Expressing Changes With 改变,变化,变得,变了,变成

As we start looking at the examples below, I want to establish a notion: the word "change" is a little different in Mando -- we actually have a few different words that will each take on a different purpose for saying "change". Those are:

  • 变得biànde --  becoming more of an adjective

  • 变化biànhuà -- this is the general noun for "change/changes"

  • 改变gǎibiàn -- usually, we will use this verb to say A "changes" B
("I changed my mind", "let's change the world!", etc)

  • 变了biàn le -- This is usually for simple situations where "something changed"

  • 变成biànchéng -- Think of this as A "Changes into" B

NOTE:It will take some time to get used to, but each of these "change" words are very different in how they are used.  Remind yourself to be patient with yourself, since this is pretty different from English! =)
