Expressing "Can Afford to" Verb 得起
If you want to say something " can be able to afford", you can use a useful pattern, Verb 得起de qǐ.
Normally we use verbs related to money, or something costs not much with 得起de qǐ. For example, 买mǎi、花huā、吃chī、租zū。
Verb 得起+ (Obj)
Zhè jiàn yīfú hěn piányí, Evan lǎoshī mǎi deqǐ.
这件衣服很便宜,Evan 老师买得起。
This cloth is very cheap, Teacher Evan can afford to buy it.
Wǒmen chī deqǐ zhège fàndiàn de cài, yīnwèi suǒyou de cài dōu hěn piányi.
我们吃得起这个饭店的菜,因为所有的菜都很便宜。
We can afford to eat the food in this restaurant because all of the food are very cheap.
